NetID - FACULTY/STAFF - NEW!
Faculty and Staff able to change their University NetID passwords at anytime using the . They will also be able to reset their password via challenge questions.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to update their personal email addresses, mobile phone numbers, and emergency contact information in Workday in order to make sure the process is as seamless as possible.
What is a NetID?
Your University NetID is comprised of your last name, first initial and a number: i.e. smitha1. This is the ID you will use to access the majority of systems and online services on campus. You can manage your NetID via the ɱٱ.
How do I Reset my Lost NetID Password?
Visit the website and select the “Reset Password for the First Time, or Reset Forgotten or Expired Password” link.
Users must input their University NetID and select Submit.
Users will be prompted to receive a password verification link via email or a verification SMS text message.
- If user selects email verification they will be sent a link to their personal email address with further instructions.
- If user selects SMS text message, they will be sent a verification code to their mobile phone number to input on the reset page.
After verifying their University NetID, the user will be asked to answer one of four Challenge Questions:
- What are the last four digits of your Social Security Number?
- What is the first and last name of one of your emergency contacts (ex. John Smith)?
- What is the area code+ phone number of one of your emergency contacts (ex. ### ###-####)?
- What are the last four digits of your CWID?
If a user previously confirmed their email address or mobile phone number, they may be asked two challenge questions in lieu of a verification email link or SMS code.
The user will be asked to set their password and confirm their new password.
When creating a password, follow the following password rules:
- Minimum of 10 characters and satisfy other rules or have a minimum passphrase length of 20 characters
- At least one capital letter or a minimum password length of 20 characters
- No spaces at the beginning or end of the password
- At least one lower case number or minimum password length of 20 characters
- At least two special characters or numbers or a minimum password length of 20 characters
- Maximum length of 128 characters
You cannot use a previously used password.
After successfully creating their new password, the user will be able to login to any service requiring their University NetID and password.
The user will also receive an email to their personal email address confirming that they had recently changed their password and steps to take in case this was done maliciously.
How do I Change my NetID Password?
If a user wants to change their password, they can log into the website using their NetID and current password.
Upon logging in, users may need to read and accept the 첥Ƶ University IT Policies and Procedures.
After logging in, users can use the menu on the front page to “change the password on your already active account”
On this page, the user must enter their current password, their new password and answer a challenge question.
The Challenge Questions consist of the following questions:
- What are the last four digits of your Social Security Number?
- What is the first and last name of one of your emergency contacts (ex. John Smith)?
- What is the area code+ phone number of one of your emergency contacts (ex. ### ###-####)?
- What are the last four digits of your CWID?
Please Note: Users can only skip each challenge question one time.
When creating a password, follow the following password rules:

NetID Management
Your 첥Ƶ University NetID is your electronic identification. Use it to access your 첥Ƶ email,
Canvas, NEST, etc.
How do I Activate/Manage my NetID?
Open a web browser such as Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer (Google Chrome is not supported). In the address bar type and press Enter.
The 첥Ƶ NetID Account Form screen will appear. Faculty and staff registrations are completed on the right side of the screen.
Enter your 8-digit Campus Wide Identifier (CWID) and your PIN number. If you do not know your CWID, you should refer to an email you received from your department. If you cannot find this email, contact HR at 973-655-5293 or hr@montclair.edu to retrieve your PIN.
The next screen contains your personal information. If all of your personal information is correct, click on This Information is Correct to go to the next screen. If your information is not correct, click on the cancel and logout link, and contact Human Resources.
Once you have verified your information and clicked on This Information is Correct, the New Password screen will appear.
After you have entered your password, click on Create my NetID Account. The next screen will appear with a message that your NetID account has been activated. Please take note of your NetID and keep your password in a safe place. To finish this process, make sure Logout is selected and click on the Continue button to exit the system.
Once your NetID is activated, your email will be provisioned immediately. Other services may take up to 24 hours to be accessible.
How do I Change my NetID Password?
Navigate to . On the right side of the screen, enter your 8-digit Campus Wide Identifier (CWID) and your PIN number. If you do not know your CWID, refer to the next section in this guide, How do I Find my CWID Number?
The next screen asks you what you would like to do. Please select “Change the password of my NetID account” radio button. Press Next and the New Password screen will appear.
Enter a password in the New Password box, then re-type it exactly the same way to confirm the new password. Each NetID is linked to your personal information at the University. NetID password MUST be between 8 and 24 characters long, MUST contain at least 2 non-alphabetical characters, at least 3 alphabetical characters, at least 1 uppercase alphabetic character and at least 1 lowercase. NetID passwords are case-sensitive.
After you have entered your password, click on “Change the password of my NetID account” button. Please take note of your NetID and keep your password in a safe place. To finish this process, make sure Logout radio button is selected and click on the Continue button to exit the system.
How do I Find my CWID Number?
Sign into with your NetID and Password
Navigate to your account icon located on the top right and click on it. On the dropdown menu, click on View Profile.
Your CWID is listed as your “Employee ID” on the Workday profile page. If you do not know your PIN, contact HR at 973-655-5293 or hr@montclair.edu.
